Canthoplasty is a procedure to increase the eye width. The general width of Asian eyes is 20-29mm. Normally, the eyes with a width of 31 to 32mm appear the brightest and most ideal.
Epicanthoplasty makes the eyes bigger by releasing the Mongolian folds, and lateral canthoplasty makes the eyes bigger by opening the lateral side of the eyes.

Medial Epicanthoplasty
No more worry about scarring (scar-free canthoplasty). With strong Mongolian folds, the medial side of the eyes looks stuffy and the eyes seem too far apart from each other.
In these kinds of situations, epicanthoplasty makes the eyes bigger and achieves a more balanced location. When the Mongolian folds are too strong, simultaneous medial canthoplasty makes the eyes look more natural and brighter at the same time. In some cases, upper canthoplasty can be performed as well to achieve a more ideal shape. Upper canthoplasty makes the eyes bigger vertically at the medial corner, so it is recommended to those whose eyes are very steep and narrow at the inner corner.

Surgery Process

Surgery Process
The ideal eyes are designed, considering the patient’s condition and needs.
An appropriate amount of skin is removed around the corner of the eyes. The outer corners of the eyes are securely fixed at a natural angle.
The wound is sutured delicately to hide the scar.

Considerations before lateral canthoplasty
- The area where the eyes are enlarged will not have lashes.
- The lower eyelids around the surgical areas can become loose.

Bigger eyes don’t always mean more beautiful eyes. Every individual has different sized eyeballs and a different shaped orbital bone.
Beautiful and attractive eyes can be obtained by eye surgery, but how, and how much the eyes should change should be decided by an eye surgery specialist, considering one’s proportions and condition.
This commonly happens when the outer corners are cut and opened to make the eyes bigger. During the recovery process, the wound heals and new tissues can cause the eyes to become closed at the surgical site again.
At CDU, the skin under the eyes is removed to prevent this situation. Alternatively, to minimize the length of the incision, the eye corner can be sutured at the lower point of the eye without removing excess skin. With these techniques, the size can be made significantly bigger, while still obtaining the effect of lowering canthoplasty.
When canthoplasty is performed with double eyelid surgery, a more dramatic result can be achieved. However, if a patient doesn’t want to change their appearance this much, we recommend monolid double eyelid surgery. Monolid double eyelid surgery creates small double folds. The double folds are not visible when the eyes are opened, but the eyes become brighter and defined.
